MaxxBrass Hall of Fame: Steve 'Chops' Schwalbe |
|
Dr. (Col) Steve 'Chops' Schwalbe was a co-founder of MaxxBrass and performed with
the group from 2003 to 2007, first on French horn then on trumpet, and served as
the group's Music Director.
Prior to this, Steve had played trumpet for nearly 40 years. In high school he toured Europe with 'Young Americans in Concert'. At the Air Force Academy he performed with the Drum and Bugle Corps and subsequently with the Dayton Symphonic Orchestra, Cape Cod Concert Band, Sacramento Jazz Band, Newport (RI) Symphony, Newport News Jazz Band, musicals in Korea and Germany, and the National Concert Band of America. MaxxBrass needed a French horn player, so Steve took up horn for two years before moving back to trumpet. Steve has retired to Spokane, Washington, where he teaches for a college and has helped form a brass quintet. Steve and his wife Ingrid and daughter Sophie will always be fondly remembered. |
