In college he was solo tubist with the Princeton University Concert Band and has performed with numerous civic bands, ensembles and orchestras.
Don studied for several years under virtuoso euphonium and trombone artist Demondrae Thurman.

Don Nolte, a co-founder and Business Manager of MaxxBrass and retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel,
started on trumpet but took up the tuba in seventh grade and played it through high school and college.
